As we begin week three, there are just a few house keeping items that I'd like to go over with parents. There is a big jump between the curriculum and expectations from 3rd to 4th grade. It is important that parents are hearing the same information as students and communication stays consistent. All of the information listed here is on my website and was also sent home during open house. Please take a minute to review and contact me if there are any questions!
Thank you! Mrs. Lundquist Word Work: On Monday, all students are given a printed Word Work paper with a list of words printed on it. Word Work Words are also posted online under the "Lesson Plans" tab. Each day students my choose a word work activity off their list that students are responsible for completing. These activities should not take your child an extended amount of time to complete, and range from writing ALL their spelling words 3 times each, writing words in ABC order, word search puzzles, or possibly a spelling partner game. Students are given time each day to complete these activities as well as additional time between activities during the day. If your child feels they need more time to complete these, they are welcome to take any activity home as long as it returns by the end of the week. On Friday, all activities are collected and counted as part of their grade. Activities not completed do not count as credit. I have encouraged ALL students to have a designated Word Work Folder so that these activities stay organized throughout the week. Ask your child, "What Word Work activity did you do today?" Encourage your child to bring these activities home and even practice together! A.R. and LIBRARY: This year, our class library days are Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Students are required to check out two AR books each week and take AR tests as necessary. A realistic expectation is that students should be testing at least once a week. However, if your child is reading a book that may take longer to complete, their testing schedule may look different. Students are encouraged to check out books in/or close to their reading level. I do not have time to be the "Book Police," but students need to be making good book choices that should last them throughout the week. When students take AR tests, they need to be scoring at least 80% or higher. Students who score below 80% may need to evaluate their book choices or need recommendations from the teacher or librarian. AR percentages are factored into your child's reading grade. It is important that students take the AR tests seriously and read the books thoroughly before taking a test. GUM and SNACK: Currently students are not allowed to chew gum in my class. Students are not permitted to chew gum in specials due to possible choking during activities. Students are allowed to bring snack each day due to 4th grade having a late lunch schedule. Please send in healthy snacks such as fruit, granola bars, cheese and crackers, etc.... Students who bring candy will be asked to save that item for lunch time. GYM: Please watch lesson plans for our alternating gym day. On days students have gym, they need to be wearing appropriate shoes. If your child has an extra pair of shoes that they would like to keep in their locker for gym, that would be OK. MATH: Each day students are assigned a new math lesson. Any math not completed must be taken home for homework. Math assignments are always due the following class day unless specified by the teacher. Math assignments not turned in on the day they are due will receive the grade of a zero. Late assignments are not accepted unless a student has been absent. Students that have missed work due to absence are still required to complete the work given during that time. COMMUNICATION: All teacher communication should go through the ClassTag App or ClassTag website. Alternative methods of communication are school email and telephone. If parents decide against downloading the Class Tag app, you may submit your email to me and you will still get notifications of new messages. I will do my best to respond to messages as soon as possible- but please allow for 24 hour response time. Messages received during the weekend will be responded to on Monday. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
